It is essential to understand that stress is not necessarily detrimental, or ‘bad’. All stress cannot and should not, be avoided. Without a certain measure of stress, life would not only be very dull and without excitement, but some jobs/tasks also will not get done. Therefore, the purpose of the stress management programme is not to dispose of stress or to teach someone to function on the lowest possible stress threshold, but to help a person manage stress in such a way that it does not affect health and general welfare, negatively.
